Q: My wife and I are boarding the P&O Arcadia on 2nd November from Southampton and are restricted to one case each of 25k because of our charter flight back from Barbados. Can any tell me if there is anyway of bringing more than that back or the possibillty of sending it back to the UK with a courier.

We have returned from Barbados several times after cruising with P&O. We have usually had two soft cases and a hanger case. Normally these do not exceed 50kg on outward journey, however on return usually more say 5kg to to 10kg. P&O have a system where your cases are collected from outside your cabin no later than midnight, last night of cruise. You identify them on dock side next morning, the they are taken to the airport and loaded onto plane, you do not touch them again after the dock side. I do not believe they are weighed before loading.

Hi 25K does not sound much, when get your tickets I am sure that you will have more than 25k each but I suppose it depends on who you booked with and who's aircraft you are flying on, when sailing P&O its usualy 32k each and one hand luggege of 12.5k.

Most airlines give you the option of paying for excess bagage prior to your flight.ie BA will only charge £43 for any additional bag. Check this with your airline

Fly with Virgin normal economy passangers are allowed 2 case at 23.5 kg each. If you upgrade to prem class or first class you are allowed 3 cases at 32 kg each. I can't cruise with less than 42 kg of luggage

We have just come back from a cruise and we had exactly the same problem. We sent extra luggage by courier and it worked. The only thing to remember is that they do not necessarily do as they promise e.g. we arranged for next day delivery both there and back but on both occasions they were delayed by a day do on the way there make sure that you arrange for them to be sent a good few days in advance. We were fortunate that the hotel we stayed in overnight pre-cruise allowed us to send our cases there for our arrival. They also allowed us to leave our extra baggage three for the return pick up which was absolutely wonderful. I cannot recommend a courier because in my experience, one is much the same as the other. Hope this helps

Parcel Force in the UK will ship for you. Log onto www.royalmail.co.uk. Alternatively, DHL will always sort something out for you, but it will be expensive. Hope this helps. Andrew Brolly www.letterkennyonline.com/lyithelpingothers.ht

hen we went the first leg of the world cruise (Jan)several years ago we left several cases in the hold of the ship and collected them in April We were spending a week in America ad then flying home The cost was tiny just a small insurance premium. We collected them from Southampton as we live in Bournemouth. It was brilliant and every thing was secure and in good condition. ideal for the evening clothes. We had 2 children and a grandma so extra luggage was a problem
