You will be advised by P&O when you receive your tickets on the number of formal nights.But you should expect 4 Formal Nights.A dark suit is Ok for formal nights but you should be aware that most men wear a Dinner Suit or Tux.Normally because of Weight restrictions there are only formal and casual nights ie no Semi Formal..Casual nights consist of Smart shirts and trousers [no jeans] .There may also be Caribbean Nights [Fancy Shirts] and perhaps a Country and Western Night. How Formal are they ? I think that unless you stick to the reccomended dress code you may feel out of place and indeed be refused service in certain bars.The Ships Daily New Paper Will advise on the dress for a any particular evening.

The Allowance we got was 23kg and 5kg hand luggage EACH, as P&O have stopped the semi formal so just cover Formal and casual. We had 4 formal on a transatlantic but you may have more due to it being Xmas and maybe New year? you should be getting your info pack that will tell you what you need to know.The Tux will be lighter than the Suit but either would do,and if you can avoid heavy beaded dresses that helps and really think about shoes.We took our own Shampoo/Conditioner and soap.The luggage is weighed going out but not flying back so you can go over weight in your checked luggage if you wish? We have managed to do a fly cruise with 20kg so it is possible, as Ida says you need to cut down on non-essentials. Yes your husband can wear a dark suit but be aware that over 95% of men will be wearing a DJ. We once packed my husband's dress shoes - which are large and heavy - as hand luggage. This certainly helped. Have a great time.

Hi Janet, This question comes up very regularly on the pages, if you want to see some of the answers then go to the "Find a Question" at the top of the page and put in the "Keyword" section "PACKING" and you will find loads of replies and solutions to your problem. One of the problems is that you are flying with a chartered aircraft and the allowance is often less than half of the scheduled airlines, but that is part of the P & O package so....... On P & O people do dress formally on formal nights but a dark suit would be ok. Now the clever packer is one who packs to mix and match, you sort of suggested you might do this and both you and Michael can follow this but what I suggest you do is get all the things out that you would like to wear and a list of days then write against those days what you are going to wear using a skirt or slacks with different tops and Michael matching trousers with shirts and one jacket then put away stuff you won’t be wearing. Cut back on the extra underwear and socks etc as there is a laundrette on there and you can easily wash out some things overnight. Prepare to pack very heavy things like shoes, stuffed with socks etc., in your carry on bags leaving room for jewellery and medicines and remember one way to carry a suit or an extra jacket and slacks is to wear it. You will be surprised how many essentials you can take by cutting out stuff that you only might need. I could go on for ages but won't I hope this helps Best wishes, Ida
