P&O Cruises rejuvenate their shore excursions

P&O Cruises rejuvenate their shore excursions

Holidaymakers will now have the chance to drive a Ferrari for the day or race a private yacht due to P&O Cruises. They have decided to add more choices of shore excursions, for those who are no longer excited by the usual coach-based shore excursions.

P&O cruises said “We are attracting more new cruise passengers than ever before and these holidaymakers are looking for something a little different to do on shore than a guided coach tour. We can now offer them experiences that simply would not be possible on any other type of holiday,” Managing Director Nigel Esdale

In the port of Livorno, Italy passengers will be able to experience Ferrari driving and in Antigua they will have the choice of racing a private Beneteau 40 yacht.

Other shore excursions available include zip wiring trips through the rainforest in Jamaica, and near the port of Cannes in Grasse passengers can enjoy creating their own personal fragrance with the professionals.

In Iceland in the port of Reykjavik you can explore glaciers and ice-fields.
These exciting new shore excursions are available now, with some of them being offered in 2009.

I don't expect P&O really believe that many passengers would consider booking these excursions at these high prices, howwever, it has generated a great of free publicity for the company! which is probably the main reason for the press release anyhow

We have been cruising now for 10 years and have found that it pays to be very selective concerning excursions. In most cases it is far far cheaper, and more fun, to do your own thing. Certainly in europe. If in Italy use the excellent train service from the ports to Florence and Rome or in Naples get a local taxi but agree the price first. In other countries always check the local bus service, there are some great deals. In the caribbean we have had some wonderful days out via a shared local taxi. Very often you get to see things other tourists miss. Doing your own thing means you dont have to go to a pottery, batik weaving, carpet making, wine making, olive oil pressing etc. that shipboard tours usually entail. If you are concerned that if things go wrong how do you get back. Go to the nearest bar they will always get you a taxi. Be reasonably streetwise as you would at home. It gets easier the more times you do your own thing

This really works. On my cruise on Ventura in April I went trekking acroos the volcanoe park in Lanzarote, walking in the forest just outside Vigo in Spain. It was terrific. Also on offer was big game fishing in Maderia and cataraman cruising whilst looking for Dolphins. This over and above the normal "bus trip round the island". I fel P&O were now looking to cover the needs of all their passengers. As for cost, the dearest was the big game fishing and that was less then I paid for a coach trip around Rome the year before! When you spend £2-3000 on a cruise you hardly want to spoil by being cheap about the excursions. I say, bring it on P&O!!

Is this meant to be a joke? if passengers could afford these type of excursions they would be cruising with Crystal or chartering a private yacht not booking on a four star cruise ship hoping that someone doesnt bawl them out for smoking

I feel we now have a solution to the smoking problem. Let the smokers take Island tours on the Smokers Only bus, whilst us non-smokers can enjoy ourselves Zip-lining, taking Helicopter flights, Whale watching and so forth. It's obvious, as we do not smoke, we can afford these exotic excursions. Enjoy your bus trip?

How many smokers have had their holiday enjoyment reduced by the actions of a non-smoker, and how many non-smokers have had their holiday affected by smokers? To set a fair balance, perhaps non-smokers should take up a habit that would annoy only smokers? Suggestions on a postcard, please. Most cruise lines are imposing more and more restrictions on smoking areas, as are other types of holiday, such as coach and rail outings, so P&O should not be singled out here.

For your information Iam not a smoker & I prefer to take several different types of holidays a year. Not blow the budget on just one.

Do I detect a humour failure? Lighten up you lot! If you cannot take it don't give it in the first place.
