Read something interesting today, apparantly the cigarette companies have developed a 'safe' cigarette, but it hasn't been released 'cos the companies would then have to admit that the cigarettes on sale at the moment are unsafe!!!

I don't think smoking should be allowed in any cabins - it's a fire risk!! Also if you are a non-smoker and the previous passengers smoked, you can always smell it. Have a smoking room or allow it one side of the outside decks but not in the bars.

I think this is a wonderful idea and hopefully you will follow by having the smae policy on Oriana, Aurora and Ocean Village 1 and 2. There is nothing worse than going into a cabin where a smoker has been on the holiday before you and all you can smell is their smoke.

Don't know if anybody has read the world news today, but cruise ships have been listed as sending out more obnoxious fumes than anything else. I'm not talking cigarettes but funnels! In fact the article goes on to say that wef 2009, cruise ships have to have clean air when they get within 24 miles of certain states. Wow, won't the prices for cruises go up!! and you non smokers are worried about the effect of passive smoking??

i think they should ban smoking every where on ships, it makes it very unpleasant for people who do not smoke.

A pity ... non smokers are still denied access to the pub and balcony cruisers have to put up with stale fag smell from the previous occupants. It's about time P&O and Princess, etc bit the bullet and did the decent thing and banned smoking in any indoor space including cabins.

I wish more cruise lines would do the same ,we have been unlucky to have an outside cabin when the previous occupants had been smokers, the whole cabin stank .We were appalled to find a smoking area in the restuarant on cunards Q E 2 mauretania restuarnte we had to sit there as it was full the staff did warn us but we thought no one would be that desperate to smoke but we were wrong ,we left before finishing our meal as did others .PLEASE WOULD ALL CRUISE LINES ADOPT THIS POLICY AT LEAST NO SMOKING IN THE CABINS .

Ok I've joined this debate rather late I agree, but lets play Devils Advocate here. First I am a smoker and believe in the old adage "he who pays the piper calls the tune" Secondly I do not believe in alcohol ( sorry but there it is).
If my smoking offends certain others and is to be vilified, then lets discuss the effects that alcohol has on Cruises. Ah but I hear you say it is part of the
holiday, a relaxation habit. Personally I find the consumption of alcohol aborhant, but I dont go round the bars telling people not to do it as it is "spoiling my holiday", nor do I suggest that it is only allowed within specific areas. Yes I know the damage that it is probably doing to my lungs, and yea I also know the damage that alcohol does to livers and various other organs.
Just one last thought on this, I have never seen or heard of an injury being caused by a fag packet---- but glasses???????

A person consuming too much alcohol takes the risk he/she may damage their health. With a smoker it's different, by smoking he/she may damage the health of everyone around them, the difference is the smoker has to exhale the smoke and everyone around is in danger. Also the smell lingers long after the smoker has left cabins etc. If smokers could exhale this in some way that didn't effect others then there wouldn't be a problem, but they cant!!!
