Cruise Line catering for different diets

P&O Cruises has expanded the service it offers on board to cater for passengers with specific dietary needs.

The diets that it will cater for will include: gluten free/wheat free, dairy free/Lactose intolerant, vegetarian/vegan, Kosher, low fat, diabetic and baby food.

On board all five ships in the fleet there will be a chef dedicated to the preparation of meals for special diets.

This chef will be advised by the reservations team in advance of embarkation of all passengers with special diet needs to ensure that the required ingredients are available.
According to P&O Cruises once the passengers are onboard they will be contacted by the headwaiter who will discuss their dietary needs and make sure these needs are met.

P&O Cruises corporate chef Michael Monahan said: "At P&O Cruises we understand that people have special dietary requirements and we are in no doubt that these can be catered for on board all our ships.

"P&O Cruises' holidays are all about freedom and choice; and people can travel on board confident that this will also be the case when dining. If a passenger has a special diet then staff onboard will do their very best to ensure that we give them an exceptional dining experience."

I am also gluten intollerant. The first night is always a bit "iffy" with the special diets (and I've always had an apology from the catering staff - it's due to the special diet chef getting into the swing of the passengers' requirements) but after that it is fantastic. If you don't see anything you fancy on the menu the chef will do you a "special". The Bread and Butter pudding is outstanding!!!
