This was our third cruise on Aurora and it was a fantastic experience. The outward crossing was so calm, we joked that the captain had taken a wrong turn and was in the Med.
Contrary to what has been said by a previous review, there was plenty to do to pass the time over the six sea days. There were some interesting lectures … in particular those given by a personality profiler/handwriting expert. Not only were they informative, but they were extremely entertaining. There were problems with some of the evening entertainment, but this was caused by some last minute changes which were outwith P&O’s control. Nicky Martin was brought on because another comedian had a family bereavement and had to cancel. Our overall cruise experience was certainly not marred by necessary last minute changes in the entertainment.
By having Wilmington for Philadelphia as the port of entry to the States, all immigration procedures were carried out there. This maximised our length of time in NY. The sail-in to NY is something I will never forget. When the ship was docked, we had truly spectacular views of Manhattan, the Brooklyn Bridge and the Statue of Liberty from our balcony. We tried to see as much as we could in each port of call and always managed to find something of interest.
I would recommend this trip to those who enjoy sea days and especially to those, like me, who dislike the thought of a long-haul flight across “the Pond”. We have booked to repeat this trip in 2009 and are looking forward to extended stays in NY and Quebec (a Beautiful city)
