Our First Cruise - a wonderful holiday on Aurora

My wife and I are just back from our first cruise, and had a wonderful time from start to finish. Check-in at Southampton was very easy and we were on board and having lunch by 12.30. From then on until the time we disembarked everything was well organised. Food, entertainment and service were good, and Aurora is a beautiful ship and very stable - the one short period of Force 7 winds was handled without a problem. In fact we are already planning to book again, almost certainly with P&O to the Med or Baltic.
Quality of Food4
All dinners in the Alexandria restaurant. Menus were generally varied although on 2 or 3 occasions we resorted to the steak option. Lunch in Cafe Bordeaux highly recommended.
Entertainment5
The resident entertainers were excellent, very versatile and hard-working, particularly the Headliners singers and dancers, Caravan pop group and pianist Jason. Guest entertainers/speakers were OK, but not brilliant - we thought comedian Allan Stewart was the best of the bunch.
Shore Excursions3
Shore excursions in Tenerife and Madeira were well organised, informative and reasonably good value.
Staff5
Very attentive service from our cabin steward Mario. Also from our waiters Nevis and Debashis and wine steward Marion, all three of whom always remembered our likes and dislikes.
Children's Facilitiesn/a
Not directly applicable to us, but all the children on-board seemed to be having a great time.
Onboard Activities3
Plenty of activities too choose from, but the weather was so good we spent most of our days lazing on deck or on our balcony, and evenings eating followed by the Theatre shows.
Cabins5
Excellent - and we were able to make full use of our balcony as the weather was so good.
Overall Rating5

This was our first cruise also and thoroughly enjoyed it. The Aurora is a beautiful ship and weathered the small storm very well! We agree the entertainment was excellent and Caravan were a superb group - up there with the best. We are now looking forward to our next cruise- yes, we are hooked! My husband was disappointed there was no golf pro on board so could not make use of the golf simulator - ahhh!!

We're just back from Aurora - although it was our fourth cruise - and as usual she was wonderful - she has to be the best P&O ship. We definately agree about the Headliners dancers and singers - thank god the Stadium Theatre Company are back! Interestingly we also had Nevis, Debashis and Marion as our restaurant staff - you must have been sitting feet away from us - we were near a window and there were 3 of us. We're glad you enjoyed it so much - you realise you may never go on another land-based holiday again! Happy Cruising!
