We have, this afternoon, just returned from Ventura cruise 23-30 May. My husband & I always sail with P&O, and we planned to go on The Ventura (not so much the destinations) but the ship itself. I realise that this ship is child orientated, but there is absolutely nowhere to find peace and quiet, even for a read. There are no adult only places on this ship, including all the bars and shows, and pool areas, having said that there are child only places, wandering the decks (looking for peace) we found a door with the sign '9-12 yr old only',how I would like to find at least one bar (Metropolis)would be good, just for adults. There were pushchairs in the dinning room, 8.30 sitting. Pushchairs in the bars and in the theatre 10.45 performance. We were spending more time in our cabin than anywhere else just to get peace and quiet. We are not against children (we have 8 grandchildren of our own) but we find that P&O are very short sighted in not allowing adult only places.
We also found that the service in the dining room was very rushed, several times we were being served our cheese course whilst still eating our sweet course, all the experienced cruisers we spoke to would defintately not go on the Ventura again. The service on this ship was not up to the usual P&O standard, we waited 2 days for the shower gel to be filled and reported the TV not working last Wednesday and was still not working when we left this morning, 3 days later. Not appearing snobby, but it is expected to dress for evening and is part of the reason we go on P&O we love the dressing up, but a lot of 'new cruisers' did not adhere to the dress code, hence my Title Ocean Village III. I would like to know who is going to be on this ship when all the children are in school? Because most of the experienced cruisers will not be cruising on The Ventura, come on P&O remember who usually supports your organisation. The only few good points are, wonderful cabin(small bathroom)wonderful bed, the entertainment run by Neil Oliver cruise director was absolutely brilliant, but all in all if you want peace dont book Ventura.
