Ventura - the best Brtish ship for families

We cruised on P&O Ventura for 1 week on 23rd May, having picked up a great deal 6 weeks before. (we have cruised 12 times over 12 years all with P&O) We went having read mixed reviews and were prepared to be disappointed. Our experience was the complete opposite. We thought the ship was fabulous. Although full to capacity you very rarely felt crowded. Always space to sit on deck - we were very lucky with the weather. The highlights of the ship were the childrens facilities for teenagers - our children - now 13 and 15 thought the facilities were superb - play stations, table tennis parties, and just loads of space to be with your new mates. Ramblas bar was great for a pre dinner drink and a tapas snack for just £2.50, also a Spanish restaurent for just £5 a head. Each bar had a different theme from Havanna with the South American theme to The Exchange - the typical British pub, The average age was much lower than we were used to on P&O - a real asset as far as we were concerned. 3 shows a night was graet as if you were 2nd sitting you could go to a show before dinner.
So what were the downsides? The self service area at lunchtime did get very crowded at certain times - paricularly on sea days. The restaurent was always an option with seats always available. The indoor smoking area in the Exchange bar got very smokey during the evening so we did not use this bar after dinner - the casino was adjacent to this area - open plan so we did not use this of an evening either. We have booked again for August and can't wait to return to Ventura - we can find our way around quicker this time!!

Thanks for writing this review. Was the sofa bed in the cabin a double or was it a single with pull down bunk for the fourth person?

Our children used it as a double sofabed and there was plenty of room (they are 15 and 13) There was also the option for a pull down bunk bed which we didn't use.
