Ace Ventura

We have just returned from a fantastic cruise on P&O Ventura and have not a bad work to say about the whole experience.
The ship and crew were stunning and could not be faulted. The bad reviews which I have read on here were as expected unfounded and from people who just like to moan. If fact the ONLY issue I had on board was having to listen to people moaning about absolutely nothing at all. These people selected a ship that was totally inappropriate for them, why? Because they wanted to brag that they had been on Ventura in its Maiden Season. All their gripes were of their own making and in some cases downright ignorant and rude. If you are expecting Ventura to be like Canberra that you have made the wrong choice (I actually heard that comparison more than once).

Ship - Contemporary, Modern and spacious
Crew - Helpful, Always Smiling and excellent
Entertainment - The best we have seen on P&O ever
Food - As good as the rest of P&O if not better in some respects
Overall - Quite simply faultless

Quality of Food5
We had 1st Sitting Club Dining in The Bay Tree, sitting on a table of 8 with 6 people we had never met before (all of which were great). The food was always hot, service was quick but not rushed, we were usually out by 20:00 - 20:10. Staff were as usual as helpful and pleasant as ever, without being over attentive. The range of food offered was great and unlike others have stated you can get the 'always available' options, all you need to do is ask.
Entertainment5
Quite simply the best we have seen at sea. The Andrew Lloyd Webber show has to be singled out as the best of the 6 production shows on board. The decision to sing each and every song the whole way through in each show has to be applauded, rather than the usual cut / crop / mix that is often seen in on board. The cabaret were also to be congratulated, specifically - ABBA Eyes, Jade Adams and Victor Michael.
Shore Excursions5
We only booked one excursion on this trip as we had been to many of the port of call before. We selected the Wine and Vine trip in Korcula. It was handed very well by P&O and the landside team and delivered exactly as expected. All the other excursions seem to go very well with no complaints for the other people at our table of 8.
Staff5
The Captain was kept very busy on our cruise. We had to attend to a mayday call from a small yacht with an injured passenger, which he kept us fully informed about before, during and after the event. He also dealt very well with a suspected fire on board, a number of passengers had noticed a burning smell. It was not on the ship at all but was coming from land, the Captain did a great job keeping us informed and not panicking the passengers. I was disgusted by one passenger who complained that the Captain's message to tell the whole ship of nearly 5000 people that it was all OK and the ship was not on fire had interrupted the show. She said he should have waited until the show was over and he was inconsiderate. He did the right thing and put 5000 minds at rest, after all it could have been a very serious problem. The moaning passenger should be ashamed of themselves.
Children's Facilities5
Did not really use them, but must have been effective and we were never really aware of there being many 'kids' on board.
Onboard Activities5
We really struggled to fit it all in this time, having to rush from one thing to another (our choice, not a moan). Loved the Syndicate Quiz, did it every night.
Cabins5
What a great cabin and so roomy with loads of storage. We only had a basic inside cabin but it could not have been better. A little tip for you, there is much more useable space in the inside cabins if you have them set up with twin beds rather than a double. The joining of the two thin spaces that would be down either side of the double into one big space between the beds is much better.

Thanks for an interesting and thorough review.I have not yet travelled on Ventura but I am encouraged by the recent increase in good reviews.I notice the last dozen or so reviews have given high over all ratings. It looks like P&O are beginning to turn thigs around for Ventura

I have just arrived back from our holiday on the Ventura and must say it is a lovely ship some teething problems but I am sure that they will be sorted out over the coming year. Its a great family ship and must congratulate the staff for keeping up the activities for all ages I must say their where 590 children and teanagers and we only seen them when they were in the pools.or if we chose to watch their programs. The Bay Tree resturant could not be faulted but I do believe the self service area seemed has though there were the same sort of things day after day.Not a lot of variety but good food was always there for the eating. The crew did all they could for you but we did miss the Officers and captain walking around while we were at sea days which does happen on a regular basis on other ships also missing was the chocolate day and at the end of the holiday a troop through the dinning resturant with the ships cooks etc which was really missed has we could not show how we appreciated all the hard work. The Cabins were spacious and very well laid out.The entertainment was very mixed some we liked others we didnt we did miss the nightly Shows but the shows that was put on were fantastic the Venturer company were the best but once again the others was or didnt seem up to the standard that is normally on P&O a couple of the comedians was not very good but the speakers and other enterainment was good for the size of the ship. We were disapointed that we could not go into the exchange has we do have problem with the smoke but all other areas were open to us to go but would have liked to see some of the entertainment in there. I must say the cruise and the ship is very big and you will not get a personal service because of the amount of people that are on this ship but do feel for ourselves we like the smaller ships but must congratulate P&O for a great family ship.

I started to read this review and once I saw the line "The bad reviews which I have read on here were as expected unfounded and from people who just like to moan" I knew it would be a worthless review. I want to hear all sides to the story not just the good or even just the bad. When a reviewer just dismisses other reviews as a waste of time because she/he does not agree wih them, you know the writer is being a bit silly and the review is unlikely to be a worthwhile read. When the writer is also rude about other opinions, you know for sure it is time to ignore that poster and read the next review. Other reviewers, please note, we are looking for fair reviews not for you to be rude about those who do not share your view. This could have been a good review if it was not for the poor style of expression from the author.

How true this comment is. It seems that this reviewer and others want to make their point by dismissing others by making derogatary remarks. I and others have our opinions and standards about what we expect from a cruise, these may conflict with with those of the reviewer but please don't be rude with your comments. Believe me I don't go on holiday to moan I go to enjoy myself, the plain fact is that my cruise (Canaries Delight) on Ventura was not for me and also for a good number of other people. It is really up to people to make their own minds up and not be influenced by the rude comments of others.

What a facile and childish comment that does exactly the same as you accuse me of. Have you been on Ventura? Have you suffered the insessant moaning of people who seem to be happy about absolutley nothing. I to have read many 'reviews' on here and many do not have one positive word to say about a cruise, only complaints. I honestly did not find any issues on Ventura that warranted a mention except for rude customers. Were you aware for instance that 4 families had to be removed from the ship at various ports - 2 for fighting over sunbeds and two for fighting over a girl. I also witnessed a man being assulted in the Arena Theatre for trying to sit in a seat that had been 'reserved' for over 45 minutes (which is clearly not allowed). The moaning people were always over 55 and in most cases unjust in thier comparisons. My review was a direct response to the very negative reviews that have been posted on here.

I have got to agree with the original poster. I was on the same cruise and they were a significant number of people who were complaining that the ship is not like Oriana and that they were too many kids on board. Wake up, you have booked a cruise on a family ship during the school holidays!!! Yes, Ventura is not perfect, but no ship is...even Oriana! I have been on 13 cruises and this was probably the best. It is a fact, some people appear not to be happy unless thay are moaning.

Could not agree more Mr. Lamb. I cannot believe how some people assume that other reviewers do not know what they are talking about because they do not share the view. I have not been on Ventura but have read enough reviews to know that she is not perfect as this reviewer suggests. Also he/she states that there are nearly 5,000 people on this ship. Really? You certainly have done lots of reseaerch haven't you? Oh dear!

Mr or Mrs Hunt, Have you been on board, if not do not make comments. You have nothing to say that is of any interest on this review. I believe the review is similar to experience I found on Ventura

Leonard, are you able to read ok. Do not make comments on my posting when you know njothing about me. DO not assume I have nothing to say. How rude and ignorant you are. I guess you are just an internet troll. This website does need to moderate responses from little boys in the school holidays.
