we have just returned from a 16 day cruise on the ventura and I can honestly say that we had a wonderful time. The staff in all bars and restaurants were excellent - happy and cheerful. we had a great cabin with a cheerful, helpful steward. The weather was great and the food good. The only problem was that there was too much of it.
We enjoyed some excellent shore excursions- Venice, Korcula and Cephalonia. The excursions team were very organised and generally if you listened to the announcements and acted accordingly the whole event was stress free.
I feel that the Ventura is trying to be all things to everyone and as she gains experience and her client base becomes settled the few gripes will sort themselves out. The entertainemnet is satisfactory with a variety each night. Some evenings it is difficult to fit it all in. I acknowledge that this is a child friendly ship but I think parents should be more considerate when taking children into comedy venues which state that the material is of an adult theme. the children fidget, make noise and the parents complain about the language. There is plenty of child orientated family entertainment available - choose carefully.
We had a great time on the Ventura. Yes she is a big ship - it takes a few days to find our bearings. Yes there are children onboard - Noddy featuring in the brochure is a bit if a giveaway. The ship has some wonderful adult areas - the thermal spa, cascino, adult only pool (again parents need to respect this), red bar and comedy evenings. Plenty of space to get away from children if that is what you need.
The pool and sundecks can get crowded and sunbeds can be a problem to find on busy sea days. However, this would be alleviated by each person acting appropriately and refraining from reserving a sunbed for hours when you only want to use it in the late afternoon.
I would encourage everyone to try this ship. She is not a copy of the Oriana - so dont go on board expecting her to be the same. If you do please refrain from constantly moaning about the fact. You are on holiday, make the most of her facilities, enjoy your time and make your own mind up. if you feel Ventura does not offer you the things you need, enjoy the holiday and next time choose another ship. This is why P and O have several ships all different.
I shall certainly return to Ventura.
