have just returned from a cruise on the ventura 1st - 17th august.we were in a party of 8 of all ages children up to grandparents.this review is just the thoughts of myself and my husband aged 39 and 42 and not of the others in the party.we were initially concerned having read the negative reviews but thought we would go with an open mind.we had no problems checking in at southampton, the whole process really smooth and efficient.we had a balcony cabin on a deck again well impressed with the cabin.the ship itself is impressive and very contemporary in style.the atrium lacked the wow factor.other than that it was lovely.went on organised excursions in malaga and cephalonia, really organised well by staff and have no complaints.the rest of the ports we did our own thing and loved the ports of call, particularly venice and dubrovic.next, the food, i must admit that i was a little disappointed by the food.some nights excellent and some nights ok.myself and my husband thought the food on princess cruises to be better.the food in east was fantastic and made up for the not so good meals.we could always get a table in the beach house and waterside and fount the food ok.we were booked for freedom dining in cinnamon restaurant and ate at 6.30 ,sometimes around 8 and never had to wait too long for a table.but we didnt understand why people should be allowed to book at all .freedom dining to us means you should just turn up and request a table when you are ready.we did this on princess ,no pre-booking allowed and it worked fine.we thought that the entertainment was excellent and the theatre company were great and the shows were really good.the comedians were either really good or poor.the volume on the whole in havana was too loud and we had to walk out one night in the middle of a show because we were deafened by the volume.there always seemed to be plenty to do or nothing if thats what you wanted to do.we always managed to find a sunbed but they were a bit crowded together.we thought the swimming pools were lovely but did comment on how deep the pools were for children.the staff were very friendly and professional , nothing too much trouble.we loved our cruise, thought it great and have no complaints.we heard people moaning that the ship was too big all i can say is read the brochure before you book and if you dont like children then dont book a family ship in school holidays.we like to try different ships every time so probably wont go back on ventura and are thinking of booking independence of the seas next time but that is no reflection on ventura.we didnt witness any trouble or problems but did hear that 16 people were taken off the ship at various ports of call for misconduct.if true i feel saddened that that has happened and its a shame people have to spoil the holiday experience for other people.
