We returned on August 1st from our Med cruise on the Ventura.
We had previously been on the Ventura weekender, prior to her launch. On this occasion we found the ship to be lovely in many respects. There were a few issues, however, we knew we would have some problems as the staff had to get used to the running of the ship, as with any new ship.
We embarked on 18th July for our 2 week Med cruise. Firstly we found a dirty cup and full ash tray on the balcony table. One "Nick Munro" mug was missing and there was some port information leaflets under the bedside table, from the previous cruise. My husband called reception to ask ,what was going on. They sent a cabin steward to our cabin who explained that the previous steward had been taken ill and had left the ship and she was our new cabin steward. I must say she sorted the cabin out and we had no complaints after that with regard to the cleanliness of the cabin.
We set sail. Our cases had not arrived. They are usually outside your cabin before the ship sets sail, but not on this occasion. We waited until 6.00pm when our cabin steward went looking for them. She found all three cases so we could quickly get ready for 6.30pm dinner.
The above were our only problems. Yes, she is a big ship and there were 800 children on board, only a few of those children were a problem, running through the self service food areas. Which I was surprised there was not an accident. A couple of the children I would lock in a cupboard and leave them there, a few of the adults needed to join them. But there you go, each to their own. On sea days, there were too many people laying aroung on the sunbeds. If you walked around the ship, which we often did in the afternoons, you would have to step over people and sun beds. They were everywhere. The children were allowed in all the pools, I know it is a family ship and they should be allowed in the pools. But the Oasis pool was for adults only. It is a small pool just outside the spa and gym. But children were in that pool too.We did not have a problem finding a sun bed. We were up early, in the gym by 8.00am, breakfast, then on a sun bed by 9.30am. On sea days we stayed on the sun bed till mid day. We then went for lunch. We never had a problem finding a table and we never had to queue for food in the buffet restaurant.
We had a lovely holiday. All the waiters and staff on the ship were extreamley polite and could not do enough for you.
This was our 13th cruise, all except 4 have been with P & O.
We are booked on Ventura again next July. We booked next years cruise before we had gone on the weekender back in April. We are going with our son, his wife and our grandaughter. We shall enjoy it. Any holiday is what you make it. However, after next year we shall not be going back on Ventura. She is too big, there are too many people for us.
